Finding the right desk is essential. You spend a lot of time at your desk and having the right one can make you happier, healthier, and more focused.
But it's hard to know what desk to buy! Sifting through an endless barrage of choices from a variety of vendors can be paralyzing.
With that in mind, we've highlighted some of our favorite desks to narrow down your options and make your search easier. But first, here are some things you need to consider before you can find the desk that's perfect for you!
Size -Answer these questions to determine the size of the desk you need. What do you need to keep on your desk at all times? Will you need space for your computer as well as other work? Do you need to keep supplies handy? Will you need to have other people work or meet with you at your desk?
You need to be careful not to get a desk too large because you might end up with extra space that gets cluttered. You also don't want a desk too small, making you feel cramped or even decreasing your morale and productivity.Of course, you also need to measure your space and make sure that the desk you are considering will fit where you plan to put it.
As a general rule, unless you specifically need a large, executive desk, or a small desk or workstation, we recommend looking in the 50"-60" range.
Storage -This is easy to overlook, so make sure you don't! If you have supplies that need a home, get a desk with drawers. Plenty of desks come with built-in file drawers, supply drawers, or both.
Shape -There aren't a tremendous number of options in terms of desk shapes, but it is still something to keep in mind. When thinking about the shape of the desk you want, all of the things we already covered come into play. If you need a lot of extra space, you may want to look at a U-shaped desk with three workable surfaces as well as some built-in storage, like drawers or a hutch.
If you need more space and storage than a traditional desk but don't have space for a big desk AND a credenza or file cabinet, you want an L-shaped desk with a built-in storage option.
Time Spent at Your Desk - If you are the active type, a small desk or a standing desk is going to be your best bet. If you are tied to your desk all day, you probably want a larger desk that has lots and lots of space. If this is the case, you'll also need a very comfortable and supportive chair.
Now that we've given you a very brief guideline, here are some of our favorite products. Your preferred style is going to be personal, so we offer these recommendations as a jumping-off point.
Modern:Modern furniture feels like a broad term. Generally speaking, modern furniture is sleek, minimalist, clean, and often includes a combination of different materials, like metal and wood.
Many of our products fit in this category, but this beauty from premium manufacturer Sharelle takes the cake. It takes all the features of a modern desk and puts them together in an exquisite package.
Glass:This desk is a new addition, and it is gorgeous. It has a unique, white glass top that makes for a signature, modern, and clean look. As a bonus, there are some built-in drawers!
L-shaped:Here is another popular choice in our L-shaped category. This desk is durable, beautiful, and convenient. It has a credenza built-in to take care of any storage needs you have, and you can use it as an extra work surface.
If you are looking for something simpler or on the more traditional side, Bestar is always going to be a safe bet. They are reliable, affordable, and fit in with anything. Here are a few of their great L-shaped options with varying degrees of storage.
U-shaped:U-shaped desks are for those who need a bit of everything. This U-shaped desk has a great color scheme, a hutch for extra storage, and three workable surfaces.
Standing Desks:Standing desks are best for people who are on the go. They encourage you to keep moving and active and promote good posture and other healthy habits. Mayline makes incredible standing desks, as well as desk options that you can use as sitting or standing desks. That's why Mayline standing desks are our favorite.
Traditional:If the modern style isn't your thing, we also have traditional options. This one is probably our favorite for its antique design, lots of storage, and sturdy build.
Solid Wood:We have a few desks that are made with solid wood through and through. We are partial to solid wood tops with live edges that show off the natural look of the wood, but there are plenty of options!
